Need help with this

OpenStudy (photon336):

f is definitely continuous because it's differentiable on that interval. If I remember correctly U means union of that set. hmm I took the derivative and set to zero to find the maximum then plugged the value back into the equation that's to find the maximum. \[\frac{ dY }{ dX } = 0 \] \[ \frac{ dY }{ dX } = -2x\] \[-2x = 0, x= 0 \] \[f(0) = 0^{2}+4 = 4 \] minimum value for the equation: \[f(4) = -(4)^{2}+4 = -12 \]

@satellite73 help?

OpenStudy (arianna1453):

Thats what i got. Just checking to make sure i was right.!

OpenStudy (arianna1453):

Could you explain this to me? @Photon336

@TrojanPoem @FortyTheRapper anyone?

The function given was a parabola with no denominator, so it is continuous Plugging in -2 and 2 gives you the same answer, so that's good So it can be applied. The derivative of the function is 2x, right? So we would set it equal to 0 to find all values where 2x = 0 After that, simply x=c
