OpenStudy (ribhu):

see.. protons = electrons protons = atomic number protons+ neutrons = mass number

OpenStudy (ribhu):

atomic number for proton determination and then mass number for neutron determination since we already know protons from atomic number..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i dont understand the second part

OpenStudy (ribhu):

once u know atomic number.. u know the number of protons present.

OpenStudy (ribhu):

and when u know protons, u know the mass number... u can calculate the neutrons from last relation. and protons = electrons.. hence we can determine every sub atomic particle

OpenStudy (ribhu):

u understood?? or any doubt..u can ask me

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

Knowing the number of protons does not give you the mass number unless you also know the number of neutrons. You know the number of protons simply from knowing which element you have, but to know the number of neutrons you must know which isotope of that element you have, as many elements have multiple isotopes.
