Combustion analysis of an unknown compound provides the following data: 98.28 grams carbon (C), 16.21 grams hydrogen (H), and 65.52 grams oxygen (O). What is the percent composition of carbon in this compound? 6.06% C 54.6% C 33.3% C 36.4% C
@sammyalabamy can you help me plz?
@Astrophysics Can you help me plz?
Ooh I remember doing this back in the day..let me see now
Ok so we have C = 98.28g, H = 16.21 g, and O = 65.2 g right
Yes @Astrophysics
Ok so what is the total number of grams?
Do i suppose to add them together? @Astrophysics
Yes, add it all together what do you get?
179.69 @Astrophysics
Good, now simply take the number of grams from carbon and divide it by the total amount which will give you a ratio of the amount of carbon in the compound
Then multiply by 100 for the percent :) make sense?
\[\frac{ Carbon }{ Total } \times 100\]
98.28g divide by 179.69g= 0.546 ....Right?
Good! Now multiply by 100 for the percent :)
0.546 x 100=54.6
:)
yayyy thank you @Astrophysics
