To find x and y, we must first equate the two equations: \[\frac{ 3 }{ 2 } x = - \frac{ 1 }{ 2 } x + 4\] Now that we only have a single variable (x), we can solve for one of our missing variables. Let's add half an x to both sides of our equation: \[\frac{ 3 }{ 2 } x\ + \frac{ 1 }{ 2 } x = - \frac{ 1 }{ 2 } x + \frac{ 1 }{ 2 } x + 4\] This will give us: \[2x = 4\] Now, we divide two to both sides: \[\frac{ 2x }{ 2 } = \frac{ 4 }{ 2 }\] And get: \[x = 2\] To get y, we just have to plug x = 2 in to one of our starting equations. Usually, we pick the simplest one: \[y = \frac{ 3 }{ 2 } \left( 2 \right) = 3\] Now that we have both our x and y, we can state our solution in point form: \[\left( 2, 3 \right)\]
