OpenStudy (kailee1423):

I have a couple of chemistry questions I can't figure out. 1. Which element is oxidized in the following reaction: CuO(s) + H2 (g) Cu(s) + H2O (l) 2. If 5.40 kcal of heat is added to 1.00 kg of water at 100⁰C, how much steam at 100⁰C is produced? Show all calculations leading to an answer.

OpenStudy (priyar):

Oxidation is: 1.addition of oxygen 2.removal of hydrogen 3.addition of electronegative electrons 4.removal of electropositive electrons so see which element has undergone any of the above 4 changes

OpenStudy (kailee1423):

H2O?

OpenStudy (priyar):

no oxidising agents as well as elements which are oxidised can only be on REACTANTS side of the equation

OpenStudy (kailee1423):

I'm so confused. Lol
