Do you know what a cation is ?
OpenStudy (ashes.boom):
a cation is a positive ion
OpenStudy (photon336):
Remember a cation means that there are more protons than electrons, so if we have a +1 charge what does this mean?
OpenStudy (ashes.boom):
theres one more proton than electrons?

Yep
OpenStudy (photon336):
So let's look at Na2S
So we know that there are two Na atoms and one sulfur atom.
How many electrons does sulfur need to complete its octet? Octet = 8 electrons.
Remember metals like to lose electrons
Non metals like to gain them.
OpenStudy (ashes.boom):
it has 6 ve so it needs to gain 2
OpenStudy (ashes.boom):
@Photon336 is that right
OpenStudy (photon336):
Yep so if sulfur has two extra electrons what would be its charge?
