OpenStudy (a1234):

How do I write the equation modeling the reaction between acetic acid and sodium chloride?

OpenStudy (joannablackwelder):

Do you know the chemical formula of the reactants?

OpenStudy (a1234):

Acetic acid is C2H4O2 and sodium chloride is NaCl

OpenStudy (rushwr):

Usually we write acetic acid as CH3COOH

OpenStudy (a1234):

So, what are the products we get from CH3COOH + NaCl?

OpenStudy (rushwr):

In the electrochemical series Na is before H ! When considering the metal side of the electrochemical series, the upper elements can displace lower ones. That means Na can displace H in acetic acid thus the reaction will be , CH3COOH + NaCl ---------> CH3COONa + HCl
