How to do this problem..? A satellite was sent to Mars by launching it into a transfer orbit EOM around the sun . It leaves the earth at E and meets Mars at M .If its semi-major axis of Earth's orbit is a(E)=1.5 * 10^11m,that of Mar's orbit is a(M)=2.28*10^11m,taken Kepler's laws give estimate of time for Mangalyaan to reach Mars from Earth to be close to : (diagram below)

EOM is actually a semi circle..

can u tell me what is transfer orbit exactly?

@whpalmer4 @dan815

OpenStudy (vincent-lyon.fr):

Use Kepler' third law to compute the time taken to travel the intermediate (transfer) orbit. Semi major axis can be found by more-than-basic geometry.
