The half-life of a radioactive isotope is the time it takes for a quantity of the isotope to be reduced to half its initial mass. Starting with 185 grams of a radioactive isotope, how much will be left after 3 half-lives? Use the calculator provided and round your answer to the nearest gram.

OpenStudy (faiqraees):

Every half life reduces the amount of mass by ? SO after three half-lives the amount left will be?

OpenStudy (mikwind):

This is very much exactly the same as with the 1850$ laptop question you already solved

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

Each half life that passes, you end up with half of what there was. Half is the same as 0.5. Multiply the original amount by 0.5 to find the amount after 1 half life. Then multiply the result by 0.5 to find the amount after the second half life. Then multiply the result a third time by 0.5 to find the final answer.
