OpenStudy (lilday12):

Why are valence electrons so important? A. They determine what kind of element the atom is. B. They are at the very center of the atom. C. They are not involved in bonding. D. They are the electrons that interact with other atoms.

OpenStudy (michele_laino):

hint: valence electrons determine the chemical behaviour of an element, and they belong to the most external shell of an atom

OpenStudy (lilday12):

D

OpenStudy (abmon98):

The valence electrons(outer electrons) of an atom, which are involved in chemical bonding. Valence electrons account for similarities in chemical behaviour among elements within each of the groups. as @Michele_Laino has mentioned. Noble gases such as neon, argon, xenon and krypton are highly unreactive because their outermost shells holds 8 electrons.

OpenStudy (abmon98):

when atoms interact to form a chemical bond, only their outermost shell which what holds the valence electrons are in contact.

OpenStudy (michele_laino):

so, you are correct! @lilday12
