OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

well... same thing as before you'd get the area of the shapes making the figure in this case, is a HEXAgonal pyramid so it has 6 sides, and each is a triangle notice, each triangular face, has a "base" of 11 and a "height" of 13.8 recall area of a triangle is 1/2 * b * h so.. get the area of one of those triangles and add all 6 of those areas first

OpenStudy (anonymous):

curved surface area \[=6\times \frac{ 1 }{ 2 }\times 11\times 13.8=?\]

OpenStudy (shaleiah):

455.4

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

after that, what's left is the area of the base which is a regular hexagon, 6 sides and to find the area of a regular hexagon, it's just 1/2 * apothem * perimeter the apothem, is the distance, from a side to center of it, in this case, 9.5

OpenStudy (shaleiah):

1/2*9.5*6=28.5

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

well... the perimeter of the regular hexagon is 6 sides of 11 units long -> 6 * 11 = 66 so the area of the regular hexagon will be 1/2 * 9.5 * 66

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[area~of~base=6~ \times~\frac{ 1 }{ 2 }\times~11~\times9.5=?\]

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

ditto

OpenStudy (shaleiah):

313.5

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

yeap then just add those two up, the triangle's area and the hexagonal's base :)

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

anyway 455.4 + 313.5 = 768.9

OpenStudy (shaleiah):

Thank you both!!
