An ionic bond forms when one or more pairs of electrons are shared between two atoms. I think its true... @sweetburger am I right?
This is explaining a covalent bond where the differences in EN (electronegativity) between the atoms are not great enough for the electron to be shifted to just one atom but the electron is actually shared in between the atoms.
An Ionic bond is where an electron the electron in question is being "hogged" by one of the atoms in the the bond. For example in NaCl the Cl steals the electron from Na and holds onto it.
so its false? im confused. its gonna sound really wierd but can you explain it is as little words as possible? (i have dyslexia and reading is peticularily hard right now..
)
Covalent bonds = shared electrons. Ionic bonds = electrons are not shared.
Ionic bonds the electron shifts to one atom
It is false. Ionic bonding is transferring valence electrons.
ohhhh okay that makes more sense. Thanks @sweetburger and @PrincessVentures can i tag you both in some more questions?
sure
thanks :)
Sure. :)
thanks :)
