Hydrogen bonds question..
What are hydrogen bonds? What other effects do they have besides adhesion and cohesion?
Hydrogen Bond are a relatively weak bond formed between a partially positive hydrogen atom and a partially negative oxygen, fluorine, or nitrogen atom of an adjacent molecule. “A hydrogen bond between molecules is about 5% to 10% as strong as a covalent bond within a molecules” (Garrison and Ellis).
Im looking for help on the second question. I did my discussion assignment on cohesion and adhesion. My profession asked the question that I posted above.
Hydrogen bonds are a special type of dipole-dipole interactions( these are attractions between polar molecules). It happens between an H atom from on side and an electronegative atom on the other side, almost always O, N or F. It has a fairly week strength but is extremely important for stabilization of molecules.
I already answered the first part. Im asking for help on the second part.. "What other effects do they have besides adhesion and cohesion?"
ask this question in chemistry section.
I guess ill try there next even though this is for an Oceanography course.
yah!!! XD
