OpenStudy (theprofessor35):

An atom would consist of what charge?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Atoms contain negatively charged electrons and positively charged protons; the number of each determines the atom's net charge

OpenStudy (theprofessor35):

So..it would cross out and become neutral?

OpenStudy (theprofessor35):

@helpmeplease134

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Not all the time. If there are 6 electrons and 6 protons, then the atom has a net charge of 0. But, if you gain an electron it becomes a negatively charged atom. If it loses an electron it becomes positively charged. The negatively charged one is known as an anion while the positively charged one is a cation

OpenStudy (theprofessor35):

Ohh, I get it now. Thanks! :)
