OpenStudy (prince1342):

The radius of the cone is 1.5 inches, and its height is 3 inches. If the diameter of the bubble gum ball is 0.5 inches, what is the closest approximation of the volume of the cone that can be filled with flavored ice?

OpenStudy (prince1342):

OpenStudy (prince1342):

21.21 in3 0.07 in3 7.00 in3 7.07 in3

OpenStudy (prince1342):

@welshfella Help me please

OpenStudy (prince1342):

Volume of a cone: V = 1 over 3 (πr2)(h)

OpenStudy (prince1342):

Volume of a sphere: V = 4 over 3 πr3

OpenStudy (prince1342):

I just am lost when it comes to plugging it in

OpenStudy (prince1342):

@gottennis121 can you help ?

OpenStudy (gottennis121):

You must be i my class cause I'm doing the exact same lesson. lol. Use the formula: Volume = 1/3 x area of the base x height. So first, do you know how to find the area of the base?

OpenStudy (prince1342):

I'm not entirely sure, can you remind me please?

OpenStudy (prince1342):

I know that we have the radius though

OpenStudy (gottennis121):

To find the base area, use the formula for a circle which is pi x radius squared

OpenStudy (welshfella):

you need to find the volume of the space underneath the bubble gum

OpenStudy (prince1342):

Oh so i find the volume of the sphere (gum) first

OpenStudy (misssmartiez):

Actually, Use the formula Pi x r^2 + PixDxH

OpenStudy (prince1342):

I don't know how to get the radius of the spherem since the diameter is 0.5 how could I possibly get half of that

OpenStudy (welshfella):

find the volume of the cone first then volume of the gum then the volume of space under the gum add the last 2 volumes and subtract them from volume of the cone

OpenStudy (misssmartiez):

Exactly, I believe something is wrong, since the radi is always the HALF of the diameter.

OpenStudy (misssmartiez):

radi + radi, or radius^2 = Diameter.

OpenStudy (misssmartiez):

I meant radi x radi .

OpenStudy (prince1342):

I got 66.55 for the volumeof the cone

OpenStudy (prince1342):

Is that right?

OpenStudy (welshfella):

no volume = 1/3 * pi * 1.5^2 * 3

OpenStudy (prince1342):

7.065

OpenStudy (misssmartiez):

Now, are you enabled to round the answer, or what? (When you get it, XD )
