OpenStudy (samigupta8):

Can anyone plss tell why is adsorption always exothermic?

OpenStudy (samigupta8):

Well! I surfed it on google and many of the sites provide stuff that since bonds have been broken it is an exothermic process... Bt i want to ask that even there is formation of new bonds too which can be the reason for it being an endothermic process..

OpenStudy (samigupta8):

@priyar @mayankdevnani

OpenStudy (sweetburger):

When bonds are formed energy is released and it is exothermic. When bonds are broken energy is absorbed and the process is endothermic.

OpenStudy (samigupta8):

Well , thanks it's the correct reason which even i knew bt i will be pleased if you can account for the reason they have provided...

OpenStudy (samigupta8):

Can u plss give the second reason? I didn't get it...

OpenStudy (samigupta8):

Ah...i know this reason...i want to know the other reason

OpenStudy (samigupta8):

The reason that the exothermic reaction is there bcoz the bonds are broken...

OpenStudy (samigupta8):

I want to ask that even new bonds are also forming between adsorbate and adsorbent so we can say that the adsorption is endothermic too!
