FAN AND MEDAL!!!! Predict whether the following single replacement reactions will occur based on the activity series of the element being replaced. If no reaction will occur, write “NR” (i.e., no reaction). If the reaction will occur, write a balanced chemical equation for it. 1.sodium + CaCl2 (aq) → 2.copper + zinc bromide (aq) → 3.magnesium + silver nitrate (aq) →
@matt101
If the metal being added is more reactive than the metal already in the compound - in other words, if the metal being added is above the other in the activity series - then a single displacement reaction will occur. For the first example, is sodium above calcium in the activity series? If yes, you will have a reaction you can balance. If no, no reaction will occur.
This is what I learnt in my country about the first reaction Na+CaCl2 1. Na only reacts with water to form sodium hydroxide, and there would be no reaction between sodium hydroxide with CaCl2 because they would not form any basic precipitation. the activity of sodium is weaker than Calcium. 2. copper is weaker than zinc in the activity-> no reaction 3. Mg+2AgNO3= Mg(NO3)2+2Ag
