Use the pythagorean theorem.
51 would have to be hypotenuse, because it is the largest side.
So check if \[ 51^2=45^2+24^2 \]is a false statement or not.
It's a true statement. @wio
so it's a right triangle
If it is true, then they form a right triangle.
So ,my reason is because the the statement is true it's a right triangle? @wio
but it's not a special right triangle, which question asked for
You can use the law of cosigns to show that the only triangle it can be is a right triangle.
Could you further explain why it's not a special right triangle? I don't really know much about triangles at all.
Oh wait, special right triangle? Let me look again.
The 2 types of special triangle are 45-45-90 and 30-60-90, and the sides have to have ratio of 1:1:2 or 1:2:root3, but none of them qualify
If it is a special right triangle, then one of the sides must be half the hypotenuse, so either:\[ 2\times 45 = 51 \quad\text{or}\quad 2\times 24=51 \]If both statements are false, it is not a special right triangle.
Hmm, well that is for 30-60-90 For 45-45-90 we would need the non-hypotenuse sides to be equal:\[ 45=24 \]
They're both false. Thank you. Could you both help me with a few more problems until I get the hang of this because I still can't do this on my own @wio @JunhaoZ
ok sure
first of all it doesn't resemble a right triangle because 20^2+25^2=30^2 is false, and second, when you simplify all three numbers, you will get 4,5,6, and that's not a Pythagorean triplet.
Okay, thank you, could you help me with 4 more? @JunhaoZ
I'll try
The ratio of the legs of a 30-60-90 right triangle is (short:long:hyp) 1:root3:2, so if 12.5 in is 1, then the hypotenuse would be double that, 25.
But the long side is a bit tricky. You multiply 12.5 with root3, which is about 21.65 in
any other questions?
Yes, 3 more.
@JunhaoZ
The short side is 22/2=11cm, and the long side would be about 19.05cm
Could you explain why/ how? @JunhaoZ
well, the ratio is 1:root3:2, and 22 is the 2 in the ratio, the short side is half of it, so 11. The long side is root3 times the short side, and 11 times root3 is about 19.05cm
Thank you, I only need help with two more.
Awesome job helping guys!
