Is Sucrose soluble in ethanol? I think it should be since "like dissolves like"

OpenStudy (photon336):

Ethanol is polar.

OpenStudy (photon336):

is sucrose polar or non polar?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Polar covalent @Photon336

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm trying to correct results from a lab we did. In the lab, not all the sucrose dissolved in the ethanol....so I'm kinda confused because I think all of the sucrose should've dissolved

OpenStudy (photon336):

sucrose has OH bonds which definitely makes it polar

OpenStudy (photon336):

it could be because the ethanol solvent was saturated,

OpenStudy (photon336):

a-lot of times, solutions can only accept a certain amount of solute, what you dissolve in it, and afterwards the solute dissolves at the bottom. that's the ksp. if ethanol is polar and, sucrose is polar then definitely you should expect dissolving to occurr.
