Hayhayz (hayhayz):

How do you use a calorimeter to determine the specific heat capacity of a metal

OpenStudy (sweetburger):

Well I think it would work something like this. You take a specific mass of the metal. Then you apply a measured amount of heat to the metal. From this you would measure the change in temperature of the metal (final T - initial T). Now you would set q= to the amount of heat you applied. m set equal to the mass in grams of the metal. and Delta T equal to Final T - Initial T. You would then be left with the variable c which you would want to get by itself.

OpenStudy (sweetburger):

So c= q/(mDeltaT)
