RhondaSommer (rhondasommer):

The definition that offers the broadest range of substances that can be considered acids is the: Arrhenius definition Brønsted-Lowry definition Lewis definition Arrhenius-Brønsted-Lowry definition

RhondaSommer (rhondasommer):

@sweetburger its Brønsted-Lowry definition right?

OpenStudy (sweetburger):

Its the Lewis Definition. This is because it basically states anything that acts as an electron acceptor can theoretically be an acid.

RhondaSommer (rhondasommer):

:( thats confusing

RhondaSommer (rhondasommer):

wierd. does that mean that air could basically be an acid according to this theory?

RhondaSommer (rhondasommer):

no. cuz air doesnt have electrons do they?

OpenStudy (sweetburger):

Well we live in an oxidizing atmosphere which means that it is taking electrons, therefore an electron acceptor which would be defined as a Lewis Base. This is why certain metals like Na quickly oxidize to form metal oxides and lose their "silverish color" to form a blackened color

RhondaSommer (rhondasommer):

oh. okay.

RhondaSommer (rhondasommer):

that makes a little more sense

OpenStudy (sweetburger):

So i guess you could say air, our atmosphere, is a lewis base. But I dont know if thats even sound reasoning XD.

RhondaSommer (rhondasommer):

lol
