OpenStudy (liaannne):

Write the overall, ionic and net ionic equations for the following reaction. Hydrobromic acid (HBr) and Strontium hydroxide (Sr(OH)2)

OpenStudy (liaannne):

@Rushwr

OpenStudy (rushwr):

okai tell me what you know about this question. Everything

OpenStudy (liaannne):

All right. So I don't know too much because Chemistry trips me up, like all the time

OpenStudy (rushwr):

Okai the first thing u have to know is that Strontium hydroxide is a good base and HBr is an acid

OpenStudy (liaannne):

Oh okay!

OpenStudy (rushwr):

So always when an acid reacts with a base it always results in formation of water thus neutralizing the medium ! (generally)

OpenStudy (rushwr):

So the balanced equation would be this 2HBr + Sr(OH)2 = 2H2O + SrBr2

OpenStudy (liaannne):

Oh wow I didn't know that! Oh all right so you had to make that based on the fact that one was a base and the other was an acid?

OpenStudy (rushwr):

When u have to balance an equation 1) Write the equation with all the products and the reactants 2) Balance the the elements in both reactant and products side

OpenStudy (liaannne):

Ahhh!! That makes so much more sense! Thanks sooo much! I really appreciate it :)

OpenStudy (rushwr):

No problem :)
