2x + 3y = -2 ............(1) 3x - y = -14 .............(2) If you multiply both sides of equation (2) by 3, the resulting equation can be added to equation (1) to eliminate terms in y. Then you can easily solve to find the value of x.
I just saw that I posted the wrong question. Sorry. Here's the correct one:
4x + 2y = 8 ...........(1) 6x - 4y = 5 ............(2) Multiply both sides of equation (1) by 2. Then the resulting equation can be added to equation (2) to eliminate terms in y. You can then solve to find the value of x.
We need to use substitution though. I thought of subtracting 4x from both sides and then dividing each term by 2 to get \(y = 4 - 2x\). Is that right?
