OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

The form of a verb that is in English "to see", "to eat", "to play", "to read" is called the infinitive. In English, it is not clear if a word is an infinitive just from looking at the word. For example, the word "be" maybe the infinitive "to be", or it may be a conjugation of the verb to be: It is imperative that you be here tomorrow. The word book may be a noun, a book that you can read, or it may be a verb, as in to book a flight. In the last case, to book is an infinitive. In Spanish, infinitives follow a pattern. There are three endings for Spanish infinitives. All Spanish verbs have one of these endings. The infinitive endings are: -ar, -er, and -ir For example: -ar verbs: mirar, to look; caminar, to walk; gustar, to like -er verbs: beber, to drink; entender, to understand; comer, to eat -ir verbs: vivir, to live; decir, to say; venir, to come You are asked about the verb "mirar." Notice that mirar ends in -ar. Mirar is the infinitive of the verb mirar, and it means to look.

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

mirando means looking. It is a present participle, or a gerund. miryindo is not a Spanish word.

OpenStudy (abbycross167):

@mathstudent55 I tried mirando but my teacher said it was wrong

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

Didn't you read anything I wrote?

OpenStudy (jeremy13):

Have u tried Mirada

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

You are looking for an INFINITIVE. The infinitives of all verbs in Spanish end in -ar, -er, or -ir.

OpenStudy (jeremy13):

so would it be mirar @mathstudent55

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

Yes. The funny thing is that the question includes the answer. What is the infinitive of the verb "to look"? It is "to look".

OpenStudy (jeremy13):
