@kingcodefish

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What's the problem?

RhondaSommer (rhondasommer):

there is two but just the top one and ill post the second one as a different question

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Let's do this one first...

RhondaSommer (rhondasommer):

?

|dw:1460778232045:dw|

RhondaSommer (rhondasommer):

yes?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I haven't finished, still solving it.

RhondaSommer (rhondasommer):

ohhh well the distance for that is 10

RhondaSommer (rhondasommer):

and (6,0) to (6,8) is 8

OpenStudy (anonymous):

First we need to find the length of the terminal vector once it hits (6, 8). We can find that through the legs and the pythagorean theorem. From there we can use a trigonometric function to solve for the angle. The fastest would be tangent because we already know the legs.

RhondaSommer (rhondasommer):

@jtug6 I cant use chat im sorry :/

OpenStudy (jtug6):

o it's fine maybe later lol

RhondaSommer (rhondasommer):

wait what? that makes no sense to me KCF

OpenStudy (anonymous):

From there we can use an inverse tangent function to find x.

RhondaSommer (rhondasommer):

(0,0) to (6,8) is 10 btw :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes, but we can just as easily use the tangent function over the cosine or sine function which involves the hypotenuse.

RhondaSommer (rhondasommer):

ohhhkay? Im not trying to find that though...right? its in a fraction?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Find the angle via inverse tangent and then find the cotangent of the angle.

RhondaSommer (rhondasommer):

and arctan(8/6) is 0.9273

OpenStudy (agent0smith):

You don't need to find the angle. Cotangent of the angle = adjacent/opposite.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ah, okay. Much easier then. I assume you can figure it out from there @RhondaSommer ?

RhondaSommer (rhondasommer):

Find the cotangent of the angle in standard position in which the terminal side passes through the point (6, 8). ok ok so now im confused
