OpenStudy (sleepyjess):

Balancing equations?

OpenStudy (sleepyjess):

Need to balance PbS + \(H_2O_2\) --> PbSO\(_4\) + H\(_2\)O

OpenStudy (sleepyjess):

@inkyvoyd @zepdrix

OpenStudy (sleepyjess):

@phi , could you help please?

OpenStudy (sleepyjess):

I know that (or at least I think) it's going to be PbS 5H\(_2\)O\(_2\) --> PbSO\(_4\) + 6H\(_2\)O to balance out the Oxygen, but I'm not sure what to do from there

OpenStudy (phi):

I would use 4 H2 O2 that gives you 4 H2 O and 4O that are used in SO4

OpenStudy (phi):

if you concentrate on the H2 O2 going to H2 O you see the reaction steals one O from the H2O2 because you need to steal 4 O's you want to start with 4 H2 O2

OpenStudy (sleepyjess):

So I was just using the wrong numbers the whole time

OpenStudy (phi):

yes. your 5H2O2 has 10 H and your 6 H2O has 12 H that does not balance, which is why you were having trouble.

OpenStudy (sleepyjess):

Yep, and I thought the 5H2O2 was right so I was trying to go from that and it just wasn't working Thank you :)
