OpenStudy (samara8954):

Jenny dissolves as much salt as she can in 100 mL of room-temperature water. She learned in class that less salt will dissolve in cold water than in hot water. Jenny adds some ice to the salt water and observes what happens. What effect will adding the ice to the solution have on the amount of salt that can be dissolved into it? It will force some of the salt to leave the solution because it will decrease the temperature. The effect is unpredictable because the ice changes two variables at the same time. It will allow more salt to be added to the solution because it add

OpenStudy (samara8954):

These are the Choices It will force some of the salt to leave the solution because it will decrease the temperature. The effect is unpredictable because the ice changes two variables at the same time. It will allow more salt to be added to the solution because it adds water to the solution. The ice will have no net effect on the amount of salt that can be dissolved in the solution.

@MysticFury

OpenStudy (photon336):

well increasing temperature means that more of the salt will dissolve. if you then put ice in I think it will force some of the salt to leave the solution. the ksp solubility constant directly relates to temperature. you increase the temperature you can actually dissolve a little more salt. however when you lower the temperature, some of the salt will will leave the solution.

OpenStudy (mysticfury):

i agree with @Photon336 mainly for the fact that the other three options are incorrect XD

OpenStudy (samara8954):

which one is it?

OpenStudy (specter0420):

It does change two variables though. The ice will begin to melt and add water to the mixture. More water means more salt can be dissolved. Less temperature means that less salt can remain in solution.

OpenStudy (photon336):

what about the third choice? part of it's missing

OpenStudy (mysticfury):

none is missing she reposted the choices underneath @Photon336

OpenStudy (samara8954):

the first one is wrong

OpenStudy (samara8954):

The answer was B

OpenStudy (photon336):

it must be because the ice will melt and the result will be more water more water means more salt will be dissolved
