It's jut a matter of integrating\[\pi\int_0^5\frac{dx}{1+x}.\]
So pi(In)(6)? @across
@mathmale
If you don't mind I'd prefer to focus on how we evaluate the actual integral, rather than on what the answer might be. You OK with that?
Sure
Great. Now, which method of finding the volume of rotation would be appropriate here: disks, shells, washers? Have you tried sketching (1+x)^(1/2)? If not, it might be helpful to do so.
I did mostly everything on the calculator... yikes
I was trying this on the calculator myself as you were typing your response. But we both have to be able to do this kind of problem manually. Have you an idea of what the given function looks like when graphed from x=0 to x=5?
Next question: would you use washers? shells? disks? Why?
To be honest I have no idea.
Have you used the method of shells before?
No, I've only heard of washers
Does this solid seem to have a hole thru its center, or not?
