OpenStudy (sunnnystrong):

Okay. So we start with a focus group of let's say 100 people. That means 47 of those people are male and 53 are female. (Given 47% male) We are told 40% of the males will buy the fruit beverage and 54% of the females will buy the fruit beverage. We must calculate the percentage of males and females who will buy the drink and add these two values together. This will give us how many people out of a sample of 100 who will buy the fruit drink. We can multiply this by 100% for our probability. The answer is 47.42%

can you show me step by step?

Givens: 47% of test group is male, 53% group is female. Start with test group of 100 47 are male and 53 are female 40% of males buy new drink. 54% of females buy new drink. Find probability random person will buy th drink. (.4)(47)+(.54)(53)=47.42% probability that a random person will buy the drink
