An event that is not affected by previous events.
1. You draw two colored marbles without replacement and get one red and one blue The fact that you pulled out the red one first means you have to pull out the blue one next. Since there's no replacement, the first event affects the second. This one is NOT independant.

2. You pull a green tile from a bag of tiles return it and the pull a yellow tile. Since you RETURN it, and place the green tile back, you're putting everything back into the original state again. What you did before doesn't affect what is to come. So this one is INDEPENDANT.

Remember my explantation before? They are independant of each other. So it will ALWAYS be 50-50, no matter what the other coin showed.
It's actually 1/4. Easiest way to explain is to count all possible events: 1) 1-st heads, 2-nd heads; 2) 1-st heads, 2-nd tails; 3) 1-st tails, 2-nd heads; 4) 1-st tails, 2-nd tails. You need only one event - 1-st heads, 2-nd tails. So the probability of the event is 1/4.
