Compare the functions shown below: Which function has the greatest maximum y-value?
f(x) = 3 cos 2x + 4
g(x) = (see the graph attached)
h(x) = x y −6 −11 −5 −6 −4 −3 −3 −2 −2 −3 −1 −6 0 −11

Hmmm, looks like for one of the functions, the y values are all negative.
True, but I need to know which function has the greatest maximum y-value. Can you help me with that? @Hero
By default, you can eliminate h(x) since its y values are all negative. So, now it's basically between f(x) and g(x).
Here's what you should observe about g(x). It's maximum value is only 3. Nevertheless I will ask you this: for f(x), what is the result when x = 0?
give me a sec, let me do the problem
That's the spirit!
I got 2.99
So for f(x) = 3*cos(2x) + 4 when you enter 0 for x which results in f(0) = 3*cos(2(0)) + 4, the result you get is 2.99?
Wait... Actually it's 7, I did something wrong the first time I tried to solve it
So the answer is f(x) right? Thank you so much :)
Correct. So looks to me like in terms of max values f(x) > g(x) > h(x)
Thanks :) Can you help me with another one?
Wbu? @RhondaSommer can you help me with another one?
Oh yay you're back :) @Hero
