Question 3 (Multiple Choice Worth 2 points) How many electrons in an atom can share the quantum numbers n = 2,l = 1? 1 3 6 10 Question 9 (Essay Worth 3 points) Explain why the quantum number set (2, 1, -2, -½) is not possible for an electron in an atom.

OpenStudy (wilsond):

can anyone help me please i need these answers badly

OpenStudy (amruta1202):

Ans should be 3 for the first one coz the value of m will be -1,0,1 So it will represent 3 different electrons

OpenStudy (amruta1202):

And for the second it says l=1 and m= 2 is impossible coz modulus of the value of m can never be greater than l

OpenStudy (amruta1202):

And in the first one if we consider the spin also i.e. +1/2 and -1/2 both then there can be 6 electrons with same n and l
