At a pressure 44 kPa, the gas in a cylinder has a volume of 14 liters. Assuming temperature remains the same, if the volume of the gas is decreased to 9 liters, what is the new pressure? kPa
Boyle's law. Ever heard of it?
no
can u help me?
Boyle's law states that the product of pressure and volume will remain a constant as long as the temprature is constant. So basically, the formula for Boyle's law is \(\Large P_1V_1 = P_2V_2\) And we've been given everything except for \(\Large P_2\) which is what we're finding. :)
what does p stand for?
Pressure V stands for volume
\(\Large P_1 = 44~kPa\\\Large V_1 = 14~liters\\\Large V_2 = 9~liters\\\Large P_2 = ??\)
67?
How did you get 67? Can you show your work? :)
I added
If you look at the equation, you will see we are multiplying. \(\Large P_1V_1 = P_2V_2\)
The pressure and volume of a gas kept at a constant temperature are inversely proportional to each other.
