OpenStudy (ilovebmth1234):

Which of these redox reactions is spontaneous as written?

OpenStudy (ilovebmth1234):

A) \[Ag+Cu ^{2+}\rightarrow Ag ^{+}+Cu\] B) \[AI+H^+\rightarrow AI ^{3+}+H _{2}\] C) \[H _{2}+AI ^{3+}\rightarrow H ^{+}+AI\] D) \[Na+K ^{+}\rightarrow Na ^{+}+K\]

OpenStudy (ilovebmth1234):

its not D

OpenStudy (paki):

hope, this will help you out.... http://www.mikeblaber.org/oldwine/chm1046/notes/Electro/Spontan/Spontan.htm

OpenStudy (ilovebmth1234):

thanks but it confused me a little /.\

OpenStudy (aabomosalam1998):

One way of predicting the spontaneity of reactions is to check the relative positions of the two elements in the activity series. Which element has a higher desire to loose electrons.

OpenStudy (pythagoras123):

B).

OpenStudy (pythagoras123):

Aluminium is above Hydrogen in the Reactivity Series. Hence aluminium will more readily lose electrons to reduce the hydrogen ion to hydrogen gas.
