NvidiaIntely (nvidiaintely):

To achieve an octet in the valence energy level, a hydrogen atom will gain seven electrons. True or False? @hartnn @mathstudent55 @TheSmartOne @Jadeishere @Donblue22 @.Sam.

sam (.sam.):

'Oct' in Octet means 8. Hydrogen has 1 electron, 1s1 and unable to achieve octet because it's 's' shell can only fit 2 electrons max.

sam (.sam.):

So there's no reason to add 7 electrons when hydrogen can only take 2.

NvidiaIntely (nvidiaintely):

Thanks for the help!

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

Yeah, Hyrdrogen is the only exception. Hydrogen needs two electrons to become stable, where as the other group A elements need 8 electons to become stable. :P
