OpenStudy (milisharma):

how to determine whether a salt is acidic, basic, slightly alkaline or strongly basic?

OpenStudy (photon336):

well, I guess it would depend on the strength of the acid or base that produced it. \[Acid + Base \rightarrow Salt + Water \] \[Strong~Acid + Strong~Base \rightarrow Neutral~Salt + Water\]

OpenStudy (rushwr):

Yeah i agree with you @Photon336 That depends on the strength of the acid or the base used to produce the salt. These are the possible types 1) Strong acid + Strong base -----> Neutral salt + water Neutral salt because both the base and the acid are strong *In other cases the salt takes the characteristics of the strong member out of the two 2) STrong acid + weak base -> Acidic salt 3) Weak acid + Strong base ----> Basic salt
