Which of the following solids would possess the lowest melting point? C25H52 Zn CaCl2 CuO

OpenStudy (faiqraees):

C25H52

OpenStudy (faiqraees):

The first one is an organic compound formed by just weak Van Der Waal forces or London Dispersion Forces. The CaCl2 and CuO are formed by relatively strong ionic bonds and Zn contains metallic bonding which is much stronger as compared to Van Der Waal forces. Since the first molecule has the weakest attraction, less energy would be required to break the bonds and hence its melting and boiling point would decrease.
