why melting point of ethanol is higher than methanol

OpenStudy (dominantvampire):

cant really find much on net

OpenStudy (aabomosalam1998):

Both Ethanol and Methanol have the ability to set hydrogen bonds between molecules due to the presence of the hydroxyl group. However, the difference in melting points can be explained by comparing their molecular weight. The alcohol with higher molecular weight, the greater the number of electrons and possibilities of forming temporary dipoles which imply stronger bonds.

thankyou
