OpenStudy (sweetburger):

The valence electrons are those that are the furthest from the positively charged nucleus so the force of attraction should be weaker or stronger?

OpenStudy (jiteshmeghwal9):

valence electrons are the electrons present in the outermost shell of the atom & these are the only present in the atom which takes part in a chemical reaction. So for them to take part in a chemical reaction they must be loosely bound to the nucleus. so they remain far away from nucleus as much as possible.
