PLEASE HELP!!! Write and balance the equation for the reaction between nitric acid and potassium iodide. The products are potassium nitrate, iodine, nitrogen monoxide, and water. Please explain too

OpenStudy (liziekay):

Do you know the actual equation? Like the symbols of the elements and the amount of each one?

OpenStudy (jiteshmeghwal9):

\[HNO_3+KI \rightarrow KNO_3+I_2+NO+H_2O\]

OpenStudy (jiteshmeghwal9):

In balancing any chemical equation we follow law of conservation of mass which states that mass can neither be created nor be destroyed. The atoms in a chemical reaction are not destroyed but they are only redistributed.

OpenStudy (jiteshmeghwal9):

In the above chemical reaction u may observe the following facts :- LHS RHS no of H atoms 1 2 no of K atoms 1 1 no of N atoms 1 2 no. of o atoms 3 5 no. of I atoms 1 2

OpenStudy (jiteshmeghwal9):

After balancing no. of each atoms will be same in both sides.

OpenStudy (jiteshmeghwal9):

\[8HNO_3+6KI=4H_2O+3I_2+6KNO_3+2NO\]

OpenStudy (justmeandme):

Thank you @jiteshmeghwal9
