How do we figure out electrons in balancing acidic solutions like so:

once you've split the reaction into the two half-reactions, you balance the O atoms with water, then you balance the H atoms with H+, and then you look at the total charge on each side of the half-reaction and add electrons to balance the charge. each half-reaction gets balanced separately, then when you combine them, you may have to multiply one (or both) half-reactions by a coefficient to make sure that all the electrons used in the reduction half are also produced in the oxidation half
