OpenStudy (quanfrazj):

When the oxygen atom in one water molecule is close to a hydrogen atom in another water molecule, what is most likely to happen?

OpenStudy (quanfrazj):

OpenStudy (saksh1998):

well the formation of hydrogen bonds as oxygen is highly electronegative(the most highly electronegative atom) and hydrogen is highly electropositive

OpenStudy (nduong21):

they will adhere to one another that's how water gains its surface tension as well

OpenStudy (sheerfire):

A hydrogen bond will form between the two. Hydrogen bonds form between one molecule which contain a hydrogen atom bonded to either nitrogen, oxygen or flourine (highly electronegative) and a molecule which contains either nitrogen, oxygen or flourine with a lone pair of electrons. So the bond will form between the hydrogen atom and the N, O or F atom containing the lone pair.
