okay so we know that the values a and b represent the vertex and the vertex in this case is (-x,y) how do we know? B is positive that's unquestionable a is negative.. why? because the original form is P(x - a) + k where a and k is the vertex so here a normally is negative so if the number is negative that would turn the form into positive in the for P(x - a) + k i guess am making sense? so we said the vertex would be (-x,y) that means Statement B is true as well because a is negative and b is positive make sense ?
