OpenStudy (qwert2):

How do I describe the effect intermolecular forces have on the melting point of these substances: water, carbon dioxide, and magnesium chloride? I get that the stronger the intermolecular force, the higher the melting point, but I just don't know how to explain it more than that.

OpenStudy (qwert2):

@pooja195 @FaiqRaees @rvanrot can u answer this?

OpenStudy (caozeyuan):

the IMF between water is hydrogen bond, between CO2 is van der waal's force, between MgCl2 is inoic bond, which one is strongest, which one is weakest?

OpenStudy (qwert2):

@caozeyuan ionic is stronger, right? then hydrogen bond, then van der waal?

OpenStudy (caozeyuan):

yes, and you said high IMF means high MP, so which one has highest MP?

OpenStudy (qwert2):

ok thanks i got it
