I have a question about the formulas you use to graph a parabola. I was given 4 equations and was told to match those equations to 4 graphs i was given. I feel like I got it right but I was wondering if someone would be so kind and check my answer. Thank you so much. *The question is attached*

My thoughts were that: Equation A matches up with Graph 1 Equation B matches up with Graph 4 Equation C matches up with Graph 3 Equation D matches up with Graph 2

For the first one y = x^2 - 6x + 8 when x=0, y=8 , point (0 , 8) when y=0 , x = 4 or x=2 0 = (x - 4)(x-2) points (4 , 0) and (2 , 0)

It has y-axis intercept at (0 , 8) It has x-axis intercept at (4 , 0) and (2 , 0) The only graph to work for that is Graph 3

so A actually matches up with 3

berb, I can be of more help if you'd please share your own work. I like Dan's verbal explanations of what he is doing to match equation with graph. Can you do the same?

The second one is y = (x - 6)(x +8) do the same thing, x and y axis intercepts... (0 , -48) (6 , 0) (-8 , 0) Only Graph 4 works on this one

That intercept has the name "S" and could be written as (0,-s), where s is the vertical distance from origin to point S.
