A copy machine makes 143 copies in 3 minutes and 15 seconds. How many copies does it make per minute?
Before I can start guiding you. How do you think you could find the answer?
by dividing 143 and 3 minutes and 15 seconds?
Find the unit rate: Divide 143 (copies) by the elapsed time, 3 minutes, 15 sec. You must change that "3 minutes, 15 sec" to either an improper fraction (a/b) or a decimal fraction: (x.yy) change in # of copies Rate of change = -------------------- elapsed time
"by dividing 143 and 3 minutes and 15 seconds?" Better written as "by dividing 143 BY 3 minutes and 15 seconds"
what about the 3 and 15?
Please read my comments, above. 3 minutes and 15 sec. needs to be converted to a number of minutes only, no seconds.
15 sec is what fraction of 1 min?
idk 1/15?
how many sec in 1 minute?
60
@mathmale
Yes, that's right, tho' I'd prefer you include the units: 60 sec = 1 min. You can make two different conversion factors from this equation:\[1=\frac{ 1~\min }{60~\sec }~and~1=\frac{ 60 \sec }{ 1~\min }\]
Which conversion factor would be the more helpful in converting "15 sec" to "minutes?" Please share your work.
