OpenStudy (18jonea):

A bullet is fired from a gun at an acceleration of 425 m/s2. If the force on the bullet when it is fired is 1.1 N, what is the mass of the bullet? 2.6 x 10^-3 kg 3.86 x 10^2 kg 4.7 x 10^2 kg 4.2 x 10^-3 kg @mathmale

OpenStudy (mhchen):

Use the formula: Force(N) = mass(kg) * acceleration(m/s^2) So if you plug the numbers in: 1.1(N) = mass(kg) * 425(m/s^2)

OpenStudy (18jonea):

ok so would i divide 1.1/ 425?

OpenStudy (18jonea):

@mhchen

OpenStudy (mhchen):

Ye

OpenStudy (18jonea):

i got .00258824

OpenStudy (18jonea):

@mhchen

OpenStudy (mhchen):

Yeah same here, so then you'd convert that to scientific notation and yea.

OpenStudy (18jonea):

i got a @mhchen

OpenStudy (mhchen):

Yeah, same here. You said you needed help converting into scientific notation?

OpenStudy (mhchen):

0.00258824 is about 0.0026 rounded. So scientific notation always starts like 2.6 * 10^something and we count the number of places the '2' moved to the right: 2.6 <-- initial place 0.26 <-- first place 0.026 <-- second place 0.0026 <-- third place Since it moved by 3 times to the RIGHT, it's 10^-3 2.6 * 10^-3

OpenStudy (18jonea):

thank you can you help with a couple more?

OpenStudy (mhchen):

nope sorry, i g2g.
