Draw the Lewis structure for XeOF4 and using VSER theory give the electron geometry, molecular geometry, hybrid orbitals scheme involved in the bonding for the central atom, and write the hybrid orbital filling diagram for the electrons on the central atom. I got the Lewis structure, and I'm pretty sure about the geometry, but everything else goes over my head. Anyone know what it means? :(
What do you think the geometry is?
I'm skipping over that... what's the next one down?
@JFraser @aaronq @sweetburger ?
So when you have more than 4 ligands bound to a central atom, the hybridization scheme will need to include the d orbitals. \(XeOF_4\) is \(\sf sp^3d\) look at this website http://www.adichemistry.com/general/chemicalbond/vbt/hybridization-illustrations.html#SP3D-HYBRIDIZATION Let me know if you still dont understand it
If you still need help @kittiwitti1 I can help explain it to you. Let me know :)
Well, I just needed a check-in on how stable my knowledge of this topic is. But I think I've got it pretty well :-) Thanks to whoever medaled me btw!
