OpenStudy (ahdreannae):

knowing that the reaction between hydrogen gas (H2) and oxygen gas (O2) to form water is exothermic, which would you say is greater: the average bond energies for hydrogen and oxygen, or the bond energies for water?

OpenStudy (aaronq):

If it is exothermic then potential energy in the bonds of the reactants was HIGHER than in the products - this makes sense because the energy must be conserved.
