Draw lewis structure of CH3CO 2-
Im getting this but its saying im wrong? please help
@sweetburger Need your help mad chemist haha
or you @greatlife44 mister walking periodic table
@inkyvoyd @zepdrix i heard you two were both good at chemistry as well!
sean help her @sweetburger
is it CH3CO2 - or CH3CO 2-
acetate ion?
is the red part where u got wrong/?? @KarisLeft
yea assuming its C2H3O2^- that is the acetate ion
yes acetate ion
well your lewis structure is correct. maybe its an issue with the program you are using
is the red part where u got it wrong??
seems unlikely both oxygens have correct formal charges of 0 and -1
@ILovePuppiesLol i think so, and @sweetburger hmm maybe.... this is frustrating haha
is the same thing happening with this one? or does the -2 go into effect somewhere?
unless the program is looking for this |dw:1481091691435:dw| maybe it wants you to include resonance structures?
ahh it does, let me try!
wait whats the difference between that one and my answer? or does that not include resonance structures
Resonance structures are every possible lewis diagram for a molecule. There are more than just one.
Ok for IBr3 you wont have any double bonds between I and Br. You should have single bonds between each I and Br with 2lone pair groups on the central Iodine. This will result in a formal charge of 0 on each respective element.
It says this on it when i get it wrong, meaning i guess i need to show another possible structure
how many structures did you show?
just the picture of what i have
yea you need to include both of the structures
and for the ibr3 2-, this is what i have so far
what would the other structure look like?
|dw:1481092217693:dw| this
@Jamierox4ev3r
i explained how to draw IBr3 above
you need to have a formal charge of 0 on the central Iodine. With your current structure that is not the case.
